Sequoia Park Zoo: Redwood Sky Walk
Adventure Canopy Course: Tree Inspection during Design & Construction
The Redwood Sky Walk is the longest sky walk in the western United States. It begins inside the Sequoia Park Zoo and takes visitors on an ADA accessible journey for ¼ mile through the tree canopy, 100 feet above the forest floor.
Our staff collaborated on all phases of this project, including conceptual design, installation and post construction. We performed aerial inspections and advanced testing, assessed tree stability and canopy dynamics, advised on tree attachment strategies, and collected data on tree growth in response to attachments. We produced specifications for tree protection and grading around tree roots, provided management recommendations to enhance tree health, and participated in community meetings and the grand opening. The team continues to monitor the installation, forest health and tree response using drone photography and growth measurements.
